Resident Evil (or now known as Resident Evil: Genesis) is a science fiction horror film in 2002 based on the Resident Evil video game made by Capcom. The film shows a woman affected by amnesia named Alice with a group of the Umbrella Corporation who is in the duty to investigate an underground facility which turned out to have been turned into a nest of zombies.

The film was directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, and was released on March 15, 2002 in the United States. The film sold commercially around the world in spite of the sharp criticism everywhere. The film has two sequels, namely Resident Evil: Apocalypse, and Resident Evil: Extinction. Interestingly, Paul Anderson himself is not directing the film and handed his job at Alexander Witt and Russell Mulcahy. The fourth series of this movie, Resident Evil: Afterlife re-directed by Paul Anderson and released in 2010 in 3D and 2D versions.

Berawali story when a man named Spence (Purefoy) to enter the T-virus into the box, and take him out. One of the virus he accidentally break the container and eventually infect the rest of The Hive. Spence fled and escaped.

Elsewhere, Alice (Jovovich) were aware of his sleep in the bathroom. When realized, he forgot about it (getting amnesia). He then got dressed and saw a photograph that he had been married. Then on her finger she saw a wedding ring with the words "created by the Umbrella Corporation."

Not long ago, Alice was arrested by Matt Addison (Mabius) who claims to be a policeman. Then comes the Umbrella Corporation's troops and capturing them both. Then they were herded into a train. Troops found Spence who was unconscious on the side of the train. The train runs up to the entrance to The Hive.

In The Hive, the Umbrella task force is crippling their computer systems known as the Red Queen. But the Red Queen in fact kill all troops except Umbrella Rain Ocampo (Rodriguez) and Kaplan (Crewes).

Rain then bitten by a zombie. And it raises bite infection that can cause mutation of the body into a zombie. They left and then combing the Hive. Alice and Matt then spoke, and then he admitted that he was not the police, he tried to enter The Hive because he wanted to know his brother who worked there.

Alice also admitted that he was the liaison from the younger brother Matt. But Alice can not comment much because he was stricken with amnesia.

Then all the remaining members tried to get out of The Hive. Kaplan decided to cut the Red Queen's circuitry so it can be turned off permanently. Red Queen was trying to help all team members. Meanwhile, Spence suddenly woke up from amnesia, and remember all the events that befall him. He then pointed the gun and fled Matt, Alice, and Rain. While Kaplan trapped in a room before it can finally free. Rain, who has been bitten, begin to reveal that he will turn into a zombie. Matt and Alice try to go out and find the door to the train. That's when they both met Kaplan.

Elsewhere, precisely at the railway, Spence tried to save themselves by injecting antiviral. He did not realize that a Licker (Licker is the result of injection of virus mutants-T to the body of healthy individuals) approached him. Spence eventually killed by the Licker.

Alice and Matt who had found a way to bring a direct train Rain and Kaplan along with antivirus and virus-T into the train and run the train. In the middle of the road, suddenly Licker attacked and killed Kaplan and Matt scratch. While Rain has also turned into a zombie. Alice Rain finally shot dead, while Licker killed by scraping his body on the railway.

Now the remaining two: Matt and Alice. And they arrived safely on the surface. Matt began to show symptoms that he will turn into mutants due to scratches Licker. When it is, some scientists Umbrella came and arrested them both. One of its leaders saw Matt and said, "I want him to go in the program nemesis." While Alice used as guinea pigs for the T-virus program.

Shortly thereafter, Alice realized. And when he left the hospital he saw that the city was ravaged. He then picked up a gun, and the film ends up on the Alice scene. With a sign that there will be a continuation (the sequel) of the film.
